K-M-T, Pine Island put on a show
With the Kasson-Mantorville/Triton gymnastics team starting to come into its own, there’s a lot of buzz when one of the perennial teams come to town for a meet. On January 4, that buzz was in the air as K-M-T hosted Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa. P-I-Z-M came into the meet ranked fourth in Class A and showed their prominence with a victory over K-M-T.
Despite the result, there was plenty to be optimistic about including the turnout for the event. The K-M Elementary School gym was packed to see the two teams perform and as a result, K-M-T put together one of its finest efforts of the season while falling 142.8 to 127.375.
“We may have lost the meet, but the girls had a lot of personal bests in their routines,” K-M-T gymnastics coach Laura Lee said. “Our JV had it’s highest score of the season (116.35) and the varsity saw their team score improve from our last meet. We hope to continue to improve our routines while the season gets to its busiest time.”
Among the standout routines from K-M-T were a pair from Cambryn Rubin, who placed third on the beam with a score of 9.05 and fourth on the uneven bars with a score of 8.25. Shae Sands also stood out with a fifth-place performance on the vault with a score of 8.525.
The rest of the meet belonged to P-I-Z-M as Sawyer Gorman took home first in the vault (9.425), Lexi Macht finished first on the uneven bars (8.675) and Brynn Olson placed first in the beam with a score of 9.225.
K-M-T will have another home meet on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. when they host Stewartville.
